The 21st annual general meeting of the Royal College Past Teachers’ association was held on the 28th of November 2015 at 9.30am at the Ruby Banquet Hall of Hotel Janaki, Fife Road, Thimbirigasyaya. A welcome snack and tea was provided for the members.
The meeting commenced with religious observances and observing 2 minutes silence for the departed members of the RCPTA. The President Mrs. Shanthi Ameresekere chaired the meeting. The items on the agenda were taken up next. After reading of the convening of the meeting, the minutes of the previous annual general meeting was adopted. This was followed by the presentation of the audited statement of accounts by the treasurer.
As a surprise move the former Principal Mr. S.H. Kumarasinghe presented a memento to the outgoing president to appreciate the services rendered by her for the association during the past three years as President.
Under resolutions received the general secretary Mr. Ranjith Senanayake moved that a member should be elected from the executive committee as the coordinator of the Community Scholarship Programme (CSP) and other projects. The amendments to the constitution proposed by Mr. S.H. Kumarasinghe was decided to be discussed at length at the inaugural committee meeting of the new executive committee.
The general secretary then made a presentation of the activities the RCPTA completed during the year just ended. This was well applauded by the members.
Representative from edoctor made a presentation on the facilities provided by them on health care and more RCPTA members were enrolled.
The outgoing President thanked all those who helped to bring the association up to the status it is today. She also thanked the ’86 group for the donation of Rs. 100,000.00 towards the expenses of the AGM. She also thanked Mr. B. Suriarachchi for his generous contribution of Rs. 80,000.00 for the same purpose. She made special mention of the unstinted support given by the Principal Mr. Upal Gunasekara in all the activities of the RCPTA.
Mr. B. Suriarachchi who was appointed as the Protem Chairman then called for the election of office bearers. The newly elected President Capt. M.N.Dharmaratne and the General Secretary Mrs. Ramya Dharmawardana thereafter proceeded to conduct the meeting.
The chief guest Mr. Upali Gunasekara said that the past teachers have contributed in a magnificent way to bring Royal College up to its present status. He said in appreciation he is always ready to give whatever support to the RCPTA. He made it known to all those present the recent achievements of Royal College. The secretary of the RCU Mr. Anil Munasinghe also spoke on the occasion.
A sumptuous lunch followed which was enjoyed by everyone present. Mr. Madhawa Kodithuwakku provided the music.
